WInter 2012 initial impressions

So far have been a few shows this season that have piqued my interest, and one which I failed to reach the end of- yes I'm looking at you, Kill me Baby
my thoughts while watching this
JC Staff continued to disappoint with Ano Natsu de Miteru- seriously, if you're going to do an original story can you please make it less cliche and trope-ridden? Cast is a mishmash of character traits from other recent show and all done in the same Toradora/To aru series art style of all recent JC shows.
we've caught you plagiarising red-handed!
As for Highschool DxD, apart from the fanservice this show is dire, with the male characters all cretinous letches and the females all as emotionless as a 35 year old crack addicted pron starlet (whihc if they were 3D they probably would end up as)
'Are you sure it's essential to the plot for me to take up top off?'
Amagami SS S2- most enjoyed show so far, and a more interesting election than the republican primaries.Kinda sad that Ayatsuji would probably be a better pres than any of them, she'd fix the US economy no problem. Though I'd still vote for Sae!
YES WE CAN!
Speaking of elections, the various pirate parties would adopt the cast of Moretsu Pirates as their new mascots. Despite having the usual cliches (transfer students- grr!) this could be fun if it doesn't try to be too serious
Down with SOPA!
Which brings me finally to Papa Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai, the guiltiest of guilty pleasures this season. Am sure this show is going to result in me going to a very bad place, but will be worth it thanks to loli-Haruhi, loli-ier Saber and loli-est Hibiki. Plus liked how they set the scene and introduced the character's prior to the tragic events to come
*Moegasam*

Added bonus for those of us who like more mature characters as well, Raika-san and her deadpan 'acting' were epic!

All together a good start to the season

Top 10 Anime of 2011

Konbanwa~
following on from 2 days ago (so much for posting more frequently- ed), here's my view on what were the best show of the last 12 months. Only criteria are what I've watched to the end, and no sequels. This is a personal opinion, so don't bitch if your favourite show doesn't make the cut!

10) Mayo Chiki- Delicious reverse trap butler, perverted mistress and violent imouto.

9) Ymekui Merry- JC staff show do about a mysterious DFC and don't cast Rie Kugimiya shock! Good characters, pacing and action scenes.

8) A Channel- K-ON! clone without the music, Yuuko was a passable Mio substitute. Touru was cute.

7) Kore wa Zomie desu ka? Very funny, tongue in cheek romp. Added points for Ayumu's crossdressing, Haruna and Sera kissing.

6) Ana hana- *sob* Menmaaaa!

5) Yuru Yuri- Chinastu sexually assaulting Akarin was one of my highlights of the year

4) Usagi Drops- thoughtful, great visuals and realistic performances. Rin gets the prize for cutest loli of 2011.

3) Nichijou- some bits were abit forced but overall hilarious. Best scenes- Yuuko's test, Principle v deer, Mio's sketching

2) The Idolm@ster- great mix of slice of life, comedy and drama. Cast were all memorable and fun to watch,  though Iori, Miki and Yukiho have to be my favourites. Good music too. K-ON done as I'd have liked perhaps?

1) Puella Magi Madoka Majica- no contest really, original, thought provoking, genre reinventing and possible the next EVA or Haruhi in terms of impact. Great visuals, strong characters and not afraid to kill the cute cast.

Happy new year!

Konbanwa~

Hope you all had a good new year's eve. My new years resolution is to to actually do some blogging in 2012, as opposed to the half dozen posts I put up in 2011.

Overall the past year has been a vintage one for anime IMO, and looking ahead there are already a few shows am looking forward to in the upcoming season. In particular:

Amagami S2- hopefully as each heroine's arc is supposed to be a direct sequel will be a bit like Clannad after story

Kill me baby- ultra-violence is always funny!

Mouretsu Pirates- could be a cute anime (space) version of the Pirates of the Caribbean, or a train wreak,

Ano Natsu de Matteru- JC staff comedies are always worth checking out,

Papa no Iu Koto wo Kikinasai!- a comedy version of usagi drops? At first I thought was a messed up concept as it was implied the male lead was the girls actual father (which would be unlikely as he's 19 and the oldest is 12 to 14). However as it is has been made clearer that he is just a relative it could be good.

I will def check this shows out, and probably tweet first impressions. Here's hoping for a good 2012 ^^

Top 5 Op's of 2010

Counterpart to the previous post, my ranking of top opening sequences of this year. I try and avoid giving a show more than one place (or this would be a very K-ON!! heavy list). Ranking is as follows:

5) Oshichau_Zo (Omamori_Himari)

Kind of making up do up the numbers, but does at least have a catgirl Himari getting her clothes ripped off and plenty of panty shots.

4) Ready go! (Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi)

Mainly because I like the SD characters and were no other shows at the time whose OP I liked much

3) Highschool of the dead (Highschool of the dead)

Good guitar riffs, more panty shots
2) Mittsu Kazoete Daishuugou! (Mitsudomoe)

Sums up the show perfectly, catchy and reminiscent of the Minami-ke OP

1) Hikarai no Senritsu (Sora no Woto)
Great visuals, recalling Elfen Lied and the work of Gustav Klimt. Stunning

Top 5 ED's of 2010

This is my take on the best ending songs from this year, based purely on personal preference and shows have seen.

5) More-More Lovers (MM!)

I like the outfits  (asymmetric socks and gloves FTW!) and the dance moves are kind of goofy but fun

4) Aoi Hana (Seitokai Yakuindomo)

Bonus point for having no real connection to the main show, however biggest draw for me is the catchy chants

3) Baka go Home (Baka to Test to Shōkanjū)

My favourite j-punk band put out a blinder here, plus the images make it look like a yaoi show

2) Pinky Jones (Yosuga no Sora)

SD characters, the shows main plot points played around with and nonsensical lyrics. What's not to like?

1) No, Thank you (K-ON!!)

Best show of the year for music, slightly has the edge over Listen as the sounds is stronger and better visuals (though the girls outfits in Listen are cuter IMO)

Oremo bad ends

Interested to read this tonight and how Oremo is the latest (after Amagami SS and Yosuga no Sora) to have alternative end. I wonder if this is an attempt by the industry to make the viewers experience more interactive/game like? Also, was this all kicked off by Clannad's another world chapters, or were there other, earlier shows to have alternate ends?

Anyway, if there is to be a 'bad end' to oremo this is what I'd like to see happen-

Option 1: Kyousuke and Kirino begin an incestuous relationship, only to get discovered and kicked out on the street. Kirino turns to whoring to support her onii-chan and his new crack habit, only for him to OD and her to commit suicide

Option 2: Kyousuke gets together with your choice of Kirino's friends, only for her to go totally stabby and murder the pair with a cleaver borrowed from Rena Ryuugu.

Option 3: Kyousuke and Kirino get together, only for her to fall pregnant. the baby has 6 toes on each foot.

Top 5 Imouto's

Party inspored by this (NSFW), here is my list of best imouto characters

Dishonorable mentions: Kirinio from Ore no Imouto and Sora from Yosuga no Sora are joint worst IMO. Both are clingy, jealous, spiteful little bitches with no redeeming featues .

5) Ui (K-ON!)
Plus points: domestic goddess
Downside: potential yandere

4) Minato (Akane-iro ni Soma Saka)
Plus points: well endowed, looks good in tennis outfit. Bonus for not actually related so technically legal
Downside: knows where the porn's hidden

3) Miya (Amagami SS)
Plus points: lots of friends can hit on, potentially into yuri
Downside: addicted to meat buns

2) Chika (Ichigo Mashimaro)
Plus points: willing to lend you cash for smokes
Downside: otherwise unremarkable

1) Mei (Clannad)
Plus points: plays cupid, highly suggestible

Downside: dangerous use of 'onii-chan' in public

First winter preview

At Seaslugs. Mitsudomoe Zouryouchuu a definite watch. Of the others only Hourou Musuko and Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? might be ok but not holding my breath

Current watch list

English Moe Fan is watching the following shows this season:

Amagami SS

MM!

Milky Holmes

Ore  no imoto

The World God Only Knows

Sora no Otoshimono Forte

Yosuga no Sora

Is probably a bit odd to start blogging shows mid season, but what the hell is now or never.
